I had used Phillips for years and was very happy with them. Great service, work, and advice, even if it did come at a price. However, over the summer I took my car for a service (costing over 600), when the radiator pump valve (?-warning, I don't know about cars) Was replaced. All seemed well, until I was driving up to Liverpool for work a couple of days later when my car broke down is glorious fashion in the M62 in June/July. Since I was in the fast lane in peak traffic at the time of breakdown, it took a short while to weave between cars and lorries safely and get into the hard shoulder, all whilst the car lost all power and was smoking from the bonnet. When the AA guy arrived, he showed me that the radiator pump wasn't connected, it had blown off whilst driving, and told me he reckoned the valve had worn out and released the pipe. When I reported this back to Phillips they denied it was anything to do with them as they had fitted a NEW value and would not pay for the damages (these damages being catastrophic engine failure resulting in a whole new engine). I even had a second opinion from 2 other car mechanics who said they think either the replacement valve had not been fitted correctly, or that the new value was faulty. I suspect that the new valve was faulty, that Phillips should have accepted responsbility, notified the supplier of the valve, and between them work out who is going to pay for the damage. Instead I was personally left to cover the cost, which I was unable to do for several months since I work a minimum wage job and had just dropped over 600 on the deadly service of the car. Now, I have spent pushing towards 1000 on buying a good new engine, getting it fitted, and then having to get a new alternator as it stopped working, apparently from having been sat for too long without ever having been turned on. It is not fair that I personally had to cover this cost. I had to borrow money from family to pay for it and will struggle to pay it back in time. Even now I don't deny that the mechanics at Phillips are good at what they do. However, in this instance there was a catastrophic error, either in the fitting or with the valve itself, and rather than taking responsibility, they left me hanging, resulting in problems with work and money. For this reason, I feel I can no longer use Phillips, and worry about recommending them to others.
I am very satisfied with Phillips Garage, I had a very especific problem with my car and it was solved quickly. They have been extraordinarily kind, honest and with a fair price.
Friendly and honest as always. I get the service I expect and no hidden or unexpected charges.
I needed work doing at short notice, Phillips were recommended to me and didn't disappoint. I dropped my car at 9.30 and it was finished by lunch. They were all very friendly and fairly priced. Happy customer
Although a little pricey when they charge for labour, the boys and girls hair do a fantastic job. I have recommended many people here after several other garages I know of have closed down.
