Visited the beautiful Chawton House today. Impressive architecture and amazing history related by knowledgeable and friendly guides. The cakes in the tea room were delicious too. A must see for Austen fans to put her lifestyle into perspective compared to that of her brother. A truly wonderful place to visit.
Very atmospheric house and contents particularly for anyone who knows about Jane Austen and her family, and the library has an excellent collection of early editions of relevant books. Everyone at Chawton House is very friendly, enthusiastic and informative. We found the exhibition on Gothic novels most informative - anyone studying English Literature at A-level next year should go!
Interesting house, reasonable entrance fee and you can return as many times as you like in a year! Keep your tickets!!!! Lovely garden and park, well worth a visit, lots of history.
A lovely place to spend an afternoon. The grounds are beautiful, particularly the walled garden. Lots of original features inside the house which makes it feel really special.
Chawton House and library are well worth a visit. Beautiful house, the library I just wanted to sit there and drink in the peaceful atmosphere, just how libraries used to be, indeed should be! Lots of information available. Friendly, welcoming reception and the guides are very helpful and informative. The gardens are great, lovely herb garden, trails for the children to run, look and learn. Highly recommend.
